Brian is a lifelong resident of Jennings County. He began his funeral career at the age of 16 while working for his grandfather. It was at this time that his passion for funeral service took hold and influenced his decision to become part of this caring profession.
In 1992, Brian graduated as the salutatorian of his class at Mid-America College of Funeral Service. He served his apprenticeship at Barkes Inlow & Weaver Funeral Home and began his career at Vance-Fisher-Sawyer Funeral Chapel in North Vernon.
He assumed ownership of the funeral home after the death of his grandfather and purchased Pickett Funeral Home in 2003. In 2007, Brian merged the funeral homes into one location and continues to operate Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Services.
Brian and his wife, Kristi (Miller), attend St. Mary’s Catholic Church. They have four children: Lane, Bret, Riley, and Ian. He enjoys outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and golfing.
He is a current member of the Knights of Columbus, North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59, Butlerville Masonic Lodge #219, Rolling Hills Shrine Club, and the North Vernon Rotary Club. He is a former Jennings County Coroner, member of the North Vernon Center Township Fire Department, and served on the Jennings County Community Foundation for six years.
