Vance D. Funkhouser, 90, of Zionsville formally of North Vernon, passed away at 12:55 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at IU Health North Hospital in Carmel.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 23, 2021, at the Zionsville American Legion Post 79. Located at 9950 E. 600 S. Zionsville, IN 46077. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison Indiana. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.
Born on April 1, 1931, in Shelby County, Vance was the loving son of Othel and Jewell (Hines) Funkhouser. He was united in marriage to Phyllis Willingham on July 26, 1975. She preceded him in death on August 29, 2014.
Vance proudly served his country in the Air Force, rising to the Rank of Staff Sargent during the Korean War from September 1, 1950 to July 22, 1954. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 410, and also a member of the VFW Post 2021, AM Vets Post 7, the Moose Lodge, and the Eagle Lodge.
Vance is survived by sons, Scott (Lynda) Funkhouser of Kokomo, Tim (Christy) Funkhouser of Zionsville, Glenn (Henry) Funkhouser of Tipton; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Othel and Jewell Funkhouser; wife, Phyllis Funkhouser; son, Dale Funkhouser; sisters, Phoneal Funkhouser, and Hilda Price; brother, Pete Funkhouser.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Zionsville American Legion Post 79 or the Whitestown American Legion Post 410.
