Stella B. Kirchner, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:28 p.m. on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020, at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Father Jerry Byrd will Officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m. at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Social distancing and masks are required.
Born on January 25, 1933, in Paint Lick, Kentucky, Stella was the daughter of James and Anna Mae (Mack) Fortner. She was united in marriage to Harry Kirchner on June 16, 1955. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1990.
Stella retired from Muscatatuck State Hospital after over 30 years working as an Attendant. After retirement, she volunteered for 18 yrs. at the Early Learning Center in the Kindergarten class where everyone knew her as “Aunt Bea.” Stella also volunteered at St. Vincent De Paul. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She loved the Christmas Holiday the most and often gave Christmas gifts to three generations of her family. Stella cherished spending time with family.
Stella is survived by brother, Charles (Doris) Fortner of North Vernon; sisters, Sandy Summerfield of North Vernon, Phyllis Blair of Columbus, Susie Horton of North Vernon, and Ellen Moore of North Vernon; many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Anna Mae Fortner; husband, Harry Kirchner; brother, James “Bill” Fortner; sisters, Lucille Redicker, Virginia Booher, Edith Bishop, and Geneva Monday.
