Ray E. Vaughn, 81, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:20 a.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus.
A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Kevin Ridder will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the start of the service.
Born on August 5, 1940, in Seymour, Ray was the loving son of Harold and Edna (Taylor) Vaughn. He was united in marriage to Karen Stout on July 14, 1962. She survives.
Ray was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Fish Creek Muzzle Loading Club, and the Pioneer Engineers Club in Rushville. He taught Chemistry and Math at the Jennings Count High School from 1962 – 1997. He also drove a semi for Ashland Oil during the Summer months and during school breaks for thirty-three years. After retiring from teaching he then worked for Biehle Electric and farmed. Ray liked working in his garden and muzzle loading. He enjoyed working with and collecting oliver cleat track crawlers. Most of all, Ray loved woodworking with his grandson.
In addition to his wife, Karen Vaughn of North Vernon, survivors include son, Jonathan Vaughn of North Vernon; daughter in law, Stephanie Vaughn of Seymour; grandsons, Austin and Mason Vaughn; sister, Christine (Brian) Wolka of Seymour.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Edna Vaughn; son, Brian Vaughn; brothers, Steven and Logan Vaughn.
