Mary Covington Peters

Mary Covington Peters, 85, of Deputy, passed away at 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, May 14, 2023, at home surrounded by her loved ones.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 22, 2023, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Mr. Lambert Greer will be officiating. Burial will be in the Dupont Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at the funeral home.

Born on July 20, 1937, in Dupont, Mary was the loving daughter of Raymond and Virginia (Holwager) Covington. She was united in marriage to Bernard Peters on August 13, 1955. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1996.

Mary retired from the Community Hospital in Anderson, IN as a unit clerk. She was a member of the Living Church of God. Mary loved gardening, bird watching, playing cards, and traveling. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She especially loved her grandchildren.

Mary is survived by daughters, Christina Martz of Anderson, Barbara (Bruce) Funk of Anderson, and Elaine Peters of Deputy; son, Michael Peters of Houston, TX; sisters, Velma Marling of North Vernon, and Joan Ehman of Albany, KY; grandchildren, Angela Martz, Katie Ryan, Jessica Abbott, Ashlee Duffel, and Brian Martz; six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Virginia Covington; husband, Bernard Peters; sister, Margerie Marcum; brother, Roy Covington; two grandsons.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Riley’s Children’s Hospital or the American Heart Association.
