Lee Burton Jr. Obituary

Lee Burton Jr., 96, of Scipio, passed away at 2:10 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at home.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Roger Lee will officiate. Burial and military graveside rites will be conducted in the Hayden Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019

Born on January 15, 1923, in Campbellsville, Kentucky, Lee was the son of Lee and Maude (Childers) Burton. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Lucille Merriman on August 28, 1945. She preceded him in death on October 10, 2001.

Lee joined the U.S. Army on August 29, 1945 where he was a Medical Aidman until his Honorable Discharge on August 14, 1946.  He retired from Arvins after 28 1/2 years. After retirement Lee worked for the Jennings County Highway Department and Findley’s sawmill on Highway 31 in Seymour.  

Survivors include daughters, Brenda Hollin of Scipio, and Kathie (Jim) Banning of Scipio; sons, Dennis (Berta) Burton of Seymour, Ronald (April) Burton of Scipio, Bryon Burton of North Vernon, Dallas Burton of Scipio, and Douglas (Deanna) Burton of Elizabethtown; sister, Helen Pauline Perkins of Newbern; brother in law, Roger Lee of Columbus; sister in law, Naomi Merriman of Columbus; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Maude Burton; wife, Evelyn Burton; 13 brothers and sisters; two granddaughters; three great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Schneck Hospice or Hayden Cemetery.
