Larry Lee Allsop, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:20 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021, at Majestic Care of North Vernon.
There will be no services at this time. Cremation has been chosen.
Born on January 1, 1943, in Lakeville, IN, Larry was the loving son of Charles C. and Lula (Franklin) Allsop. He was united in marriage to Ilah Farrington in 1968. To this union they were blessed with a daughter, Stacy born in the Summer of 1975 and a son, Walter adopted the same Summer of 1975.
Larry was raised on a dairy farm. He graduated from Central High School in South Bend in 1961. After serving in the Marine Corp Reserves, he earned a degree in Wildlife Science from Purdue University in December of 1972. He was hired by the Indiana Department of Natural Resources as an assistant property manager at Crosley State Fish and Wildlife area. After two years he became the manager of the area and worked there for thirty-seven more years, serving a total of thirty-nine years for the DNR. Besides experience in farming, he had a layman’s knowledge of electricity, carpentry, and plumbing. He had been a volunteer for the Vernon Township Fire Department. Larry had many hobbies; he was a hunter all of his adult life and in midlife became a kayaker and canoer. He made many trips with friends to the boundary waters of Minnesota and to well-known kayaking and canoeing rivers of West Virginia and Kentucky.
In addition to his wife, Ilah Allsop of North Vernon, survivors include daughter, Stacy (DaCarllo McCormick) Allsop; son, Walter McArthur Allsop; grandchildren, Loraine Allsop, and Ashley Jaurique; great grandchildren, Alexander and Ariel Pinon, Julious and Jacob Jaurique, and Luna Allsup; sisters, Alice Farrington, and Marjorie (Larry) Royce; brothers, Charles R. “Bud” Allsop, and Jerry (Jane) Allsop.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lula Allsop; brother, Francis Allsop; brother in law, Wayne Farrington; sister in law, Sonja Allsop.
