Kenneth R. Vance, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:25 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at St. Vincent Jennings County Hospital.
A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Kendall Wildey will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the funeral home.
Born on October 7, 1942, in Indianapolis, Kenneth was the loving son of Kenneth M. and Kathryn (Bentley) Vance. He was united in marriage to Kay Klein on July 18, 1964. She survives.
Kenneth retired after 36 years of teaching mostly all at JCHS. After retiring he taught at Ivy Tec. Kenneth was a member of the Indiana Retired Teacher Association and had served on the North Vernon City Council. He enjoyed sports and NASCAR races. Most of all he cherished spending his time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Kay Vance of North Vernon, survivors include son, Kenneth W. (Kim) Vance of Cincinnati, O; daughter, Carolyn (Rob) Underwood of Springville; brother, William E. (Janet) Vance of Seymour; grandchildren, Amanda (Ethen) Courtad, T.J. Underwood, and Alli Underwood; great grandchild, William Martin Courtad.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth M. and Kathryn Vance.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Rescue 20 or the Vernon Volunteer Fire Department.
