John D. Dennis Jr.

John D. Dennis Jr., 91, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:09 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

A Funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Donald Hadley will officiate. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 10, 2019.

Born February 17, 1928, in Greencastle, John was the son of John Sr. and Lillian (Scott) Dennis. He was united in marriage to Edith Johnston on July 16, 1950. She preceded him in death on March 2, 2019.

John enlisted in the Army on December 12, 1945, having earned World War II Victory Medal before being honorably discharged on May 26, 1947. He retired from Allison Transmission. John enjoyed having morning coffee at McDonald’s with his friends.

John is survived by sons, Jay (Susan) Dennis of Oro Valley, AZ, and Jim (Julie) Dennis of Manhattan, KS; brother in-law, Dallas Johnston of Forsythe, MO; sister in-law, Linda Martin of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 12 great – grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sr. and Lillian Dennis; wife, Edith Dennis; son, Jerry Dennis; brother, David Dennis; sister, Laura York.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
