John Cornett Obituary

John William Cornett, 69, of Commiskey, left this earth to sing the lead in the choir with the angels on Friday, April 8, 2022, at Majestic Care in North Vernon with his family by his side.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Damon Marling will officiate. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022, at the Funeral Home.

John entered this earth on February 5, 1953, in Columbus, he was the loving son of Isaac and Ola (Caudill) Cornett.

John was blessed with many talents throughout his life that included his ability to sing. John had an amazing voice that he loved to share with everyone. Country music and the Gospel were the songs that he loved to sing. John spent most of his life working as a tradesman of drywall and plastering. For over 50 years he worked long hard days providing for his family that he cherished the most. John found joy in hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, playing cornhole, volunteering with his church, singing and most of all, spending time with his family. John attended the United Christian Church in Commiskey where he loved to sing and praise the Lord for all of his blessings. John had a very strong work ethic that made him the loving father, brother, uncle, grandpa, and great grandpa that he was for everyone. John loved all of his family and he was very proud of each one of his daughters and the women that they became.

He is leaving behind daughters, Shannon (Doug) Reedy of Sellersburg, Amy Cornett of Seymour, Donna (Josh) Holloway of Cicero, Michaella (Bodi) Henry of Scipio, and Misty (Danny) Watkins of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Julianna (Dakota) Cox of New Albany, Josh (Kimmie) Gudgel of Bloomington, Jonathan Gudgel of Paris Crossing, Jenna Davidson and Faith Cornett both of Seymour, Ethan Cornett of North Vernon, Brandon Matlott of Daytona, FL, Brian (Jayna) Clouse of Crothersville, Payton Clouse of Scipio, Maya and Emily Henry both of North Vernon, and Cole and Kane Rosfeld both of Sunman; ten great grandchildren; sisters, Carolyn Holley of Seymour, Elizabeth “Liz” Ebbing and Wanda Wilson both of North Vernon; brother, Mark (Beth) Cornett of Scipio; twenty nine nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Ike and Ola Cornett; sisters, Betty Barlett, Linda Spurgeon, and Kathleen Holley; brothers, Leslie “Les” Cornett, Paschal “Pat” Cornett, and Isaac “Gale” Cornett.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the family for expenses.
