James Michael “Mike” Wainscott, 70, of Scipio, passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at the Silver Oaks Health Campus in Columbus.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Kevin Ritter and Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. Social distancing and masks are required.
Born on April 13, 1950, in Greensburg, Mike was the son of Raymond and Marie (Mills) Wainscott. He was united in marriage to Hazel Longelin on December 19, 1981. She survives.
Mike retired from Cummins Inc. in 1999 after 30 years of employment. He was in the Army National Guard for 6 years and was a member of the Butlerville Baptist Church. Mike was a Civil War Enthusiast and traveled to visit many Civil War battle sites. He enjoyed fishing and making knives in his spare time.
In addition to his wife, Hazel Wainscott of Scipio, survivors include, step sons, Mark Bott, Michael Bott, and Ronnie Bott all of North Vernon; step daughter, Tracey Bott of North Vernon; brothers, Raymond Lee (Brenda) Wainscott of Butlerville, and Carol Eugene (Alice) Wainscott of Kokomo; 5 grandchildren.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marie Wainscott.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County.
