Jack Wagster Obituary

Jack Wayne Wagster, 66, of North Vernon, Indiana passed away unexpectedly on October 21, 2019.  He was born on June 26, 1953 in Broseley, Missouri.

Jack was a friend to all who knew him. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 43 years, Raye and his children, Jackie (Don) and Tyler (Deidre), as well as his four grandchildren, Isabelle, Griffin, Poppy and Vivian. He will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Peggy and his brothers, Don (Rosita) and Brian (Holly). He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Kathleen Wagster of Broseley, Missouri.

Jack attended Twin Rivers Senior High School- Class of 1971. He graduated from Oakland City University in 1976 where he played collegiate level basketball.

He worked for the United States Forest Service as a forest firefighter during his college years.

He then moved to Greensburg, Indiana where he was employed at Stewart Seeds for 25 years as the Regional Sales Manager.

In 1999, he developed his own crop insurance company, Top Land Risk Management and later established other companies.

Jack was a Master gardener and had been featured in many news articles showcasing his gardens. He loved sharing his produce with friends and neighbors. He was very proud of his beautiful rose gardens. He also enjoyed fishing and looked forward to his annual fishing trips to Alabama. He was a member of St. Anne’s Golf Course and enjoyed his Thursday night men’s golf league.

Jack was very active in his community. He was a member of The Community of Christ Church. He was also a member of Promise Keepers, served on the Jennings County Extension board and the Hayden Water Utility board. He was a 4-H and FFA alumni and supporter. He supported countless local charities, organizations and benefits.

 He was the Southeast Missouri State champion of “everything”.

Jack loved his family fiercely. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed life to the fullest.

He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and community.

A Memorial Visitation will be on Tuesday October 29, 2019 from 4:00-8:00pm at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home, 115 S. State St. North Vernon, Indiana.

A Memorial Service will take place the following day at 1:00pm at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with a one hour visitation prior.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that you make a special memory with your loved ones, because that’s what Jack would have wanted.

Memorial Donations can be made through Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home to one of the following organizations:

  • Spencer Township Volunteer Fire Department
  • US Fish and Wildlife Services (Muscatatuck Wildlife Service)
  • Hayden Historical Museum
  • Purdue Extension - Jennings County (make checks payable to Jennings CES Funds)
