Ione Trapp Obituary

Ione R. Trapp, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2020, at Autumn Trace Assisted Living in North Vernon.

There will be a graveside service held at a later date. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Born March 4, 1931, in Wheeler, AR, Ione was the sixth child of seven to Charles and Freda (Rudolph) Miner. She was united in marriage to Raymond Trapp in 1959. He preceded her in death on November 2, 2008.

Ione attended school in Arkansas and graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor’s degree in social welfare and a minor in Psychology and Sociology. She worked with the American Red Cross in the Military Hospitals at Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Hood, Texas. Then she worked with the department of public welfare in New Mexico. She went on to work at Labeniate Children’s Facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before coming to Indiana in 1959 to work at Muscatatuck State Development Center in various positions until retiring in 1996.

 Ione was a Charter member of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority and a charter member of the Harmony Quilters. She has enjoyed making quilts for family members, Children’s Villa, WIG, and Quilts of Valor. Ione was also a charter member of the Indiana State Quilt Guild and the American Quilters Society. She was involved in the literacy program and had the first student who completed the program. She was a volunteer at the Park Theater and with the Friends of the Jennings County Library, the Good Samaritan Meals, and other things throughout the years.

Ione is survived by stepsons, John Michael (Charlotte) Trapp and David Eugene (Jane) Trapp of North Vernon; six step grandchildren; 6 step great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Freda Miner; husband, Raymond Trapp; stepson, Paul Trapp; six siblings.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Park Theater, Literacy Program at the Jennings County Public Library, or the Freda Miner Scholarship Fund.
