George Kreutzjans Obituary

George R. Kreutzjans, 89, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Monday, June 29, 2020, surrounded by his family at home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2020, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will Officiate. Burial will be in St. Ann’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2020 with the Rosary Service being conducted at 3:30 p.m. at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.

The family requests that all those attending the services to please wear a face mask.


Born on August 18, 1930, in Jennings County, George was the son of Joseph H. and Margaret S. (Gasper) Kreutzjans. He was united in marriage to Mary E. Andreu on February 14, 1953 at the Sacred Heart Church in Tampa, FL. She preceded him in death.

After graduating in 1949 from Vernon High School, George served his country proudly from July 13, 1951 in the Airforce during the Korean War till his honorable discharge on July 13, 1954, rising to the rank of Staff Sgt. 4 stripes. He was a lifetime farmer and took great pride in his soybean, corn, and wheat fields. George was a member of the St. Ann’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed and cherished all the time spent with his family and friends.  

George is survived by daughters, Theresa M. (Martin) Dexter of Logansport, Diana M. (Jim) Abel of North Vernon, Alicia M. (Kevin) Greene of North Vernon, and Victoria M. (Scott) Smith of Butlerville; sons, Gerald (Bridgid) Kreutzjans of West Palm Beach, FL, David J. (Vivian) Kreutzjans of Jacksonville, FL, Jeff J. Kreutzjans of North Vernon, and John A. (Dianna) Kreutzjans of Freetown; brother, Edward (Sandra) Kreutzjans of North Vernon; 13 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Kreutzjans; wife, Mary E. Kreutzjans; brothers, Richard, Joseph Jr., Aloysius, and Sylvester Kreutzjans; sisters, Mildred Kreutzjans, Anna Walters, and Marcella Magoteaux; grandson, Morgan Dexter.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to St. Ann’s Cemetery Fund.
