Gary D. Smith

Gary D. Smith, 74, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:28 a.m. on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Frank McGee will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till the start of the service. A private Burial will be in the Resthaven Cemetery in Edinburg.

Born on April 23, 1947, in Shelbyville, Gary was the loving son of John and Juanita (Phelps) Smith. He was united in marriage to Nancy Parmer on July 20, 1968. She survives.

Gary graduated from Edinburg Community High School, he attended Purdue University, Lain Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IUPUI in Columbus, and completed a Dale Carnegie course in 1998. He worked at Decatur Mold and Excel Tool until retirement. He was a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers. Gary loved farming, animals, and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Nancy Smith of North Vernon, survivors include daughter, Dawn (Todd) Bowers of Aurora; son, Aaron (Francoise) Smith of Tours, France; sister, Darlene Smith of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Isaac and Olivia Bowers, and Merlin Smith.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, John and Juanita Smith; brother, Terry Smith.
