Donald Roy Herr, 93, of North Vernon passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at the Four Seasons Retirement Center in Columbus, IN.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.
Born June 14, 1926, in Jennings County, he was the son of Clyde William and Rose May Herr. He was united in marriage to Betty Lou Gosman on June 2, 1951. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2007.
Mr. Herr was a 1944 graduate of North Vernon High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He grew up exploring Jennings County and pursuing his hobbies of hunting and fishing. Mr. Herr retired from Cummins Engine Company in 1985 after 32 years of employment. He continued his love of farming until his mid-seventies. He was a member of the Baptist Church and an Indiana Freemason. He enjoyed taking drives and spending time with his family.
Survivors include sons, Ray Allan (Elaine) Herr of Batesville, and Roy Wayne (Kim) Herr of North Vernon; daughter, Donna Lou (Fred) Bowling of Greenwood; five grandchildren, Natalie Coklow, Cory and Daniel Herr, Lindsey Bush and Donald Hearne; three great-grandchildren, Emmett Herr, Beckham and Blakely Bush.
Mr. Herr was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty Lou Herr; brothers, Glenn Herr, Elmo Herr, Chalmer Herr, Carl Herr, Lloyd Herr, Walter Herr; and sisters, Audra Couchman and Mary Leeds.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.
