Donald Lee Elmore, age 82, of North Vernon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at Autumn Trace Assisted Living, North Vernon.
He was born September 19, 1937 in Indianapolis to Dale Richard and Doris Juanita (Day) Elmore. He married his high school sweetheart Marvelle Hughey on June 10, 1955.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Tea Creek Cemetery.
Don graduated North Vernon High School in 1955. He was an US Army veteran and retired from Cummins Engine company after 31 years. Don enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their sporting events and school activities. He enjoyed family gatherings, mowing, working around the farm, football and spending time with classmates. Always ready for a road trip, he and Marvelle loved exploring new areas.
Survivors include loving sons, Steve (Rita) Elmore of Scipio and Chris (Laura) Elmore of Nineveh; brothers: Richard (Mary) Elmore, David (Louise) Elmore, sister: Linda (Jim) Rodenberger, sister-in-law Sue Elmore, foster sister Janet Sue (Alvin) Fields, memorable grandfather to: Cole Elmore, Ashley Ferguson, Tiffany Clark, Brooke Elmore, Jonathon Rupert, Lyn Burdine, Jared Elmore, and Michelle Lambert; 18 great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marvelle (Hughey) and his parents.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Tea Creek Cemetery.
