David A. Watkins, 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:35 a.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022, at home surrounded by his loved ones.
In keeping with the family’s wishes no services will be held at this time. Cremation was chosen. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.
Born on February 28, 1944, in Pineville, Kentucky, David was the loving son of John and Lola (Bays) Watkins. He was united in marriage to Shirley Cherry in January of 1969, she was the love of his life. She survives.
David better known as Dave to most who loved him, owned and operated Dave’s Construction. He enjoyed raising and breaking horses, hunting, fishing, gardening, and riding covered buggies. Dave was a guy who loved laughing and telling jokes. He was proud of his Indian Heritage. Most of all Dave cherished spending time with his kids and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Shirley Watkins of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, April (Ed Maiden) Watkins of Lexington, IN, Melissa (Timothy) Maiden of North Vernon, Audrey (James) Franks of North Vernon and Tonya (Charles Cravens) Watkins of North Vernon; son, Terry Williams of North Vernon; brothers, Everet Watkins of North Vernon, Fred Watkins of Lima, OH, and E.J. Watkins of North Vernon; sisters, Peggy Stewart of Madison, Donna Perkinson of North Vernon, Kathy Andry of Columbus, and Glenna Lilly of North Vernon; grandchildren, Angel, T.J., and Tiffany Anderson, Amber Rudolph, Heather and Allen Williams, Carmen Hulse, Kayla Moore, Matthew Williams, Jeffrey Douglas, Crystal Johnson, Jessica Bolding, Christopher Johnson, David Franks, Whitney Morin, Sierra Rogers, and Brittany Rogers; several great grandchildren.
David is preceded in death by his parents, John and Lola Watkins; brother, Johnny Ray Watkins; sister, Shirley Campfield; grandchild, Terry Fritz.
