Wilma Ruth Tucker-Ling Quinn Abney, 88, of North Vernon, was called home by the Heavenly Father on Thursday, November 10, 2016, at Premier Healthcare of North Vernon.
A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016, at Riverview Cemetery in Seymour. Deacon Larry French will officiate. Arrangements were entrusted to Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.
Born December 24, 1927, in Valparaiso, Wilma was the daughter of Floyd Leslie Tucker (1893-1948) and Edith Laura Fancher-Kinzie (1897-1928), who died two months after Wilma's birth. Wilma was raised by her surrogate mother, Edith Grace Ling (1892-1938), a cousin of her father, and her father's aunt, Evolett Werich Ling (1861-1949). She married Leo Quinn on June 26, 1946, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour, and he preceded her in death in 1986. On March 12, 1989, she married Dock Abney, and he preceded her in death on January 1, 1998.
Wilma was a devout Catholic her entire life. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Seymour, St. Mary's Catholic Church in Richmond, and St. Mary's Catholic Church in North Vernon.
Wilma dedicated her life to providing services to others during her employment, working as a seamstress at the Shirt Factory in Seymour, and as a cook at The Pines Restaurant and The Holiday Inn in Seymour. On February 26, 1972, she became Senior Aide and on November 6, 1989, she became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). She was employed at various nursing homes and hospitals in Seymour, Richmond and North Vernon, including but not limited to Jackson Park Convalescent Center in Seymour, Seymour Hospital, Jenkins Hall in Richmond, North Vernon Nursing Home and Jennings Health Care Center, from which she retired in 2007. In 2008, she moved to Jennings Health Care Center, where, as a resident, she became President of the Resident Council.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Shara Miller) of Hagerstown, Indiana, David of North Vernon, and Dale (Julie Kern) of Myrtle Beach, SC; three daughters, Sue (David) Camp of Apache Junction, AZ/Darien Center, NY, Linda (Bruce) Allen of Ames, IA, and Jane (Christopher) Bradley of Findlay, OH; nine grandchildren, David (Joyce) Camp, Jr., of Cheektowaga, NY, Brien (Rachel) Quinn of Fountain City, IN, Anthony Camp of Surprize, AZ, Philip Quinn of Richmond, Erin (David) Rundberg of High Point, NC, Jennifer Bradley of New Albany, IN, Elizabeth Bradley of Chicago, IL, Alicia (Phillip) Morgan of Waycross, GA, Erin Miller of Hagerstown, IN and Amy Burris of Connersville, IN; 18 great-grandchildren, Aaron, Kyle and Samantha Camp (NY), Sariya Camp (AZ), Alicia, Alayna, Myah, Eden, Adeline and Lyla Quinn (IN), Damien and Zoey Rundberg (NC), Megan and Benjamin Quinn (IN), Jack and Kyla Morgan (GA), and Ashleigh Coy and Corbin Burris (IN). In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including, but not limited to, daughters of dearest friend, George Tomlinson (died May 22, 2012). All will miss her warm smile and friendly, loving character.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Wilma was preceded in death by a son, Rev. Donald Quinn (died November 13, 2011); daughter-in-law, Janet Ickes Quinn (died April 31, 2013); four brothers, John Alton (Eileen Spencer) Tucker (1917-1950), Harold Tucker (Died at birth, 1918), Raymond Leo (Gladys Christian) Tucker (1922-2002), Paul Samuel Tucker (1924-1994); four sisters, Harriet Alice Tucker (died at birth, 1918), Leila Ellen (Edward C) Tucker Spencer (1920-2011), Mary Elizabeth (Nile, Jr.) Tucker Smith (1923-2001), and Geneva Laura June (Wilbert C) Tucker Spencer (1925-2016); and great-grandson, Clayton Jobe Quinn (died April 23, 2006).
Flowers are respectfully declined. In lieu of flowers, the family requests masses be offered in her name, donations in her name to the Arthritis Foundation, American Heart Association or to Sertoma Club.
