Obituary

William John Partington III, known fondly as Bill, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on August 14, 1947, in Anderson, Indiana, Bill grew up in the Anderson and Alexandria areas, where he made a name for himself as a talented athlete. He graduated from Alexandria Monroe High School in 1965, earning letters in track, baseball, and golf.

Bill was a true free spirit who lived life on his own terms. His journey took him from Anderson to Muncie, where he worked at Westinghouse, and then to Florida for construction jobs. He even spent some time in Nevada as a professional stock car driver-definitely not your average path! Later, he returned to Indiana and retired from the Anderson Consolidated School Corporation, where he was a dedicated custodian.

In 2015, Bill found a new home in Hayden, Indiana. He cherished his retirement years, spending his days watching wildlife in his backyard and enjoying sports with his beloved cat by his side. March was always his favorite time of year, particularly March 1st, when winter finally ended and all the best sports seasons kicked off-think March Madness, spring training, and more. Bill was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds, IU sports, and NASCAR.

Bill is survived by his sister, Nancy Crist; nephew, Michael Crist; niece, Kaylin Crist; several cousins.

William was preceded in death by his parents; William, and Frieda Garrett Partington; niece, Delaina Crist; brother-in-law Hershel Crist.

Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
