William "Doug" Leach, 73, of North Vernon, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at Schneck Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.  Rev. Richard Burcham will officiate.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Born December 18, 1944, in Milton, KY, Doug was the son of the late Russell and Helen Stockdale Leach.  He is survived by his wife, Ramona Leach.

He had worked in the past at ITT Industries, Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, Union Bank (for a period of 16 years) and in the Jennings County Courthouse and Annex buildings as a custodian.  He enjoyed coaching and watching softball, line dancing and bingo.

Doug is survived by his wife, Ramona; three daughters, Michelle (Mike) Lugo of Seymour, Kimberly (Eddie) Blevins of Salem and Lisa (Tim) Boardman of Austin, TX; a stepson, J.D. (Betty) Powell of Gulfport, MS; two sisters, Sue (Larry) Layton of Milton, KY and Jo Carolyn Day of Cannan; eight grandchildren, Amber Ramey, Justin (Kristinia) Ramey, Alyson Kirkpatrick, Kayla (Zach) Sturgill, Tyler Stearns, Noah Boardman, Andrew and Jordan Powell; five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Helen Leach; one brother, Darrell Leach; and three sisters, Ruth Chatam, Patty Ellis and Janice Banks.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the family to assist with funeral expenses.
