Obituary

William Joseph Baurley, 83, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:05 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, 2024, at Seymour Crossing in Seymour.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 1, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Four Corners. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with the recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.

Born on October 2, 1940, in Hayden, William was the loving son of Paul and Esther (Simmons) Baurley. He was united in marriage to Kathlene Marie Vogel on July 22, 1967 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She survives.

After graduating in 1959 from Hayden High School where he played on the basketball and baseball teams, William served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1959 to 1963 and was stationed in Big Springs, Texas as an Administrative Clerk.  He then worked most of his career from 1966 to 1996 at Cummins Engine Company, where he worked on fuel pumps among other things. William was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He participated on the St Joseph's Church softball team. William enjoyed going fishing, bowling, playing baseball, and basketball in his younger years and watching sports on television all his life. His favorite teams were the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana University Hoosiers. William's favorite attire was a white pocketed t-shirt and a I.U. Baseball hat.

In addition to his wife, Kathlene Baurley, survivors include son, Gordon (Jennifer) Baurley; daughter, Vera (Joseph) Lohner; grandchildren, David Wagner, Sarah Breeding, Samantha Lohner, Joshua Lohner, and Amelia Lohner; great grandchild, Maddie Haley; brothers, Butch "Paul" (Sue) Baurley, and Irvin Baurley; sisters, Betty (Ron) Wells, and Theresa Spurr; goddaughters, Dolly Warren, Clover Morey, and Jami Vogel; numerous nieces, and nephews; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Esther Baurley; uncle, Bernard Baurley; aunt, Myrtle Baurley; sisters, Patricia Capes, and Joann Megel; godparents, Joe and Lucille Baurley.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the family.
