William H. Barnes Sr., 72, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, at the Columbus Regional Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Connie Barr will be officiating. Burial will be in Bear Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2020, at the funeral home.

Born December 7, 1947, in Jeffersonville, William was the son of William F. and Mary G. (Clarkson) Barnes. He was united in marriage to Rosie Morris on June 20, 1969. She survives.

William was a member of Alert United Methodist Church. He liked working on cars, watching NASCAR, and enjoyed late model dirt track racing. He really loved his job at B & H Electric. Most of all William dearly loved his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Barnes of Elizabethtown; daughter, Maribeth (Tim) Suhre of North Vernon; son, Billy (Kim) Barnes of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Ben Suhre, Abby Suhre (Adam Capes), Allie Barnes, AJ Barnes, Anthony Canter, and Brenda Canter; two great grandchildren.

William is preceded in death by his parents, William F. and Mary Barnes; brother, Roger D. Barnes Sr.
