Willa L. Tolliver Salyer Lyons, 100, of Butlerville,passed away Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at 9:25 a.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.
Born March 31, 1909 in Buchanan County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George and Lou Sena Phillips Tolliver. She married Noah Clyde Salyer. He preceded her in death in 1946. She later married J.E. Lyons. He preceded her in death in 1980.
Mrs. Lyons had been a homemaker and also been employed as a young lady at the W.T. Grant and the Selby Shoe Factory of Portsmouth, Ohio.
She was a member of the Ohio Valley United Baptist Church in Wheelersburg, Ohio and the Order of Eastern Star #495 of Lucasville. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, crocheting, knitting and other handwork.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen S. (Hans)Johansen of Butlerville, a sister, Ruby Brewster of Albuquerque, New Mexico, grandchildren, Mark (Julie) Perkins, Gary (Alice) Perkins, John (Dana) Perkins, John (Kathy) Johansen and 9 great-grandchildren, Jami, Connor, Ryan, Emily and Christina Perkins, Steven and Crysta Litzy, and Jessie and Tony Johansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a daughter, Wilma Jean Salyer, a son, Allen Clyde Salyer, sisters, Pearl Simpson, Zell Ennis, Edna Hollandsworth, Versa Smith, Bertha Snyder and Opal Ruble, brothers, Lee, Dennis, Roy, Ulis, Leck, Tom, and Steve Tolliver.
Funeral Information
A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Rushtown Cemetery in Rushtown, Ohio. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sawyer~Pickett Funeral Home, 115 South State Street, North Vernon, Indiana. Burial will be at the Rushtown Cemetery in Rushtown, Ohio, off of Route 104.
