Walter Lee Gibson, 61, of North Vernon, passed away at 9:01 p.m. on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at the St. Vincent Hospital in Jennings County.

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 5, 2021, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Ricky Persons will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till the time of service on Friday, March 5, 2021.

Born on August 9, 1959, in Goodrich, MI, Walter was the loving son of Edward and Carmaleta (Murphy) Grant.

Walter had worked previously in construction. He was currently employed with Seymour Tubing at his time of death. Walter enjoyed reading, playing sudoku, and watching sports. He finished 4th in the State Wrestling Tournament in 1977. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. Most of all, Walter enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Walter is survived by sons, Robert Gibson, Grant (Lindsay) Gibson of North Vernon; sisters, Lena Grizard of O'Fallon, MO, Tommie Krager of Columbus, and Kathy Rollins of Kokomo; brothers, John Gibson of North Vernon, James (Shelia) Gibson of Ft. Myers, FL, and Dean Grant of Scipio; grandchildren, Michael, Xandur, and Gretchen Gibson.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Carmaleta Grant.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
