Walter O. Anderson, 80, North Vernon, died Thursday afternoon, September 9, 2010 at the Columbus Regional Hospital following a short illness.
He worked for Regal Rugs for many years and was recently employed at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and his grandchildren. He was active in the Grayford Road Baptist Church and the Smiling Seniors Group.
Born July 28, 1930, in Seymour, Indiana, he was a son of Charles and Florence Anderson, both of whom preceded him in death. On May 8, 1949 at First Baptist Church, Seymour, he married Helen M. Anderson, who preceded him in death on June 30, 2005.
He is survived by three sons, Bob Anderson, Seymour; Dennis (Linda) Anderson, Richmond; and Jerry (Peggy) Anderson, North Vernon; three sisters, Imogene (Jim) Creech, Seymour, Eileen Hale, Seymour, and Mary Yeadon, Columbus. Surviving grandchildren include, Jonathon (Kim) Anderson, Indianapolis, Tammi (Jason) Harrell, Seymour, Wayne Anderson and Amy Linker both of Richmond, and Jeremy (Dawn) Anderson, Hagerstown; Mike (Natasha) Anderson, Krista Anderson and Sarah Anderson, all of North Vernon, Jerica Anderson, Madison, and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his companion Leona Mullins.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Gene and William Anderson; and sister, Dorothy Ruddick.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home Rev. Bob Weeks, Rev. Richard Burcham and Gene Poer officiating. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon. Burial will take place at Vernon Cemetery.
