Obituary

Virginia L. (Ashby) Vincent, 90, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:45 a.m., on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Majestic Care.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Major Mike McKee will officiate. Burial will be in the Rush Branch Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 27, 2025 and again from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service on Tuesday.

Born on February 10, 1934, in Madison, Virginia was the loving daughter of the late Raymond and Sylvia (Goins) Ashby. She was united in marriage to Delbert Lee Vincent. He preceded her in death.

Virginia worked as a cook through the years at Pleasers, Arby's, and Cracker Barrell. In her free time, she was an active member of the community being involved with the Foster Grandparent program, Home Extension Hayden Haymakers, the Vice President of the Women's Ministry at the First Assembly of God and was the Co-Founder and Board Member of The Good Samaritan Food Pantry. Virginia was a faithful member of the Salvation Army Church. During her time in Florida, Virginia stayed busy with her involvement as a Girl Scout Leader, and volunteering at the Head Start Program, and at the Marietta Civic Center. She enjoyed painting rocks and working a good puzzle. Virginia most of all, cherished time spent with her loving family.

Virginia will be missed by her daughters, Anna Lee (Daniel) Thornton of Lake City, FL, Delberta Brooks of Butlerville, and Ginger (Dennis) Purdue of North Vernon; sons, Delbert (Dolores) Vincent of Hayden, and James (Rhonda) Vincent of San Jacinto; brothers, Benjamin, Richard, and James Ashby all of Madison; sister, Betty Walters of Madison; 26 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 26 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Sylvia Ashby; husband, Delbert Vincent; son, John Lester Vincent; brothers, Larry, Donald, and Raymond Ashby; sisters, Bonnie McClure, Sylvia Prives, America Woodfill, Maria Sue Burchfield, Joyce Ashby, Jessie Ashby and Annabelle Gaylord.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
