Vera Mae Lowry

Vera M. Lowry, 80, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011, at Jennings Health Care Center in North Vernon.

Born on October 1, 1930, in Grundy County, IL, she was the daughter of the late Helen and Howard Ash.

Vera graduated from Vernon High School in 1948. She worked at Jennings County Courthouse, Callie Chrysler and Hoosier Hills Healthcare Center before becoming a homemaker. Vera married Paul F. "Bud" Lowry on January 31, 1957. He preceded her in death on June 14, 1997. They had one son, Timothy H. Lowry born on October 8, 1959.

Vera was a past member and secretary of the North Vernon Lions Club. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in North Vernon. She and her husband, Bud, enjoyed frequent trips to the Smoky Mountains and Nashville. They also enjoyed going to the Brownstown Speedway.

Survivors include her son, Tim (Rita) Lowry; two sisters, Wilma Clarkson and Dorothy May; three granddaughters, LeAnn Mull, Amie Brunner, and Angie Kelley; and five great-grandchildren all of North Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one sister, Evelyn Ash Cline.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 7:00 pm on Monday, June 20, 2011 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev Marvin Sweet will officiate. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at the funeral home.
