Stephen Hempstead, 73, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on January 28, 2021, at home.

There will be no service at this time. Cremation was chosen. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with arrangements.

Born on March 19, 1947, Stephen was the loving son of Gerald and Helen (Decker) Hempstead. He was united in marriage to Linda Boatman in Las Vegas on November 10, 1986. She survives.

Stephen was self employed as a truck driver. He enjoyed fishing and trucking. Most important to him was his son who was his hero.

In addition to his wife, Linda Hempstead of North Vernon, he is survived by son, Johnny Martinez and daughter in law, Buranda Martinez of Antelope, CA; brother, Dick Hempstead of New York; sister, Terry Schrader of New York; sister in law, Nora Hernandez; brother in law, Joey Hernandez; grandson, Elijah Martinez of Antelope, CA; nieces, Rachel DeSantiago, Brittany Puderbaugh, Jessica Gallegos; step mother in law, Jean Deloris Willis of Edinburg.

Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Helen Hempstead; brother, Frank Hempstead.
