Stephen A. Bailey, 66, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the Covered Bridge Health in Seymour.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Caleb Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 8, 2024, at the funeral home.
Born on August 28, 1957, in Loveland, Ohio., Stephen was the loving son of Robert Lee and Elizabeth Ann (Stratford) Bailey. He was united in marriage to Ellen Krise on January 5, 1997. She survives.
Stephen had gone to the vocational school for small engines and worked for Seymour Small Engines until 1987. He then began his career at Hilex – Poly where he worked for 33 years. He was a Christian, and a lifetime member of Bass Masters. Stephen loved farming with his best friend, Mike Nelson, and going fishing. He was a "Chevy Man." Most of all, Stephen cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Ellen Bailey of North Vernon, survivors include daughters, Stephanie (Randy "Bear") Applegate of North Vernon, Deidre Marling of Seymour, and Sarah (Eddy) Sorg of Vallonia; sons, Matt (Ashley) Wayt of Terre Haute, and Paul (Chrissy) Wayt of Clinton; brother, Rick (Dorothy) Bailey of North Vernon; sister, Sharleen Warren of North Vernon; grandchildren, Mikayla, Ethan, Lydia, Lance, Zoe, Hannah, Hunter, Danica, Jaden, Elana, Lola, Bryleigh, Abigail, Charlotte, Cody (Amanda), Courtney (Levi), Adam, Ashlyn, and Raylan; three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elizabeth Bailey.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to the American Alzheimer's Association.
