Mrs. Sonja K. Cartwright

November 22, 1942 - October 22, 2013

Sonja Kay Cartwright, 70, of North Vernon, passed away at, 12:35 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at her residence.

Born November 22, 1942 in Decatur County, Sonja was the daughter of the late Clifton A. and Gladys I. Heaton Castor. She later married Charles Cartwright on July 6, 1960. He survives.

Mrs. Cartwright had been a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses and had been employed in the past with the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, US Shoe of Madison, JC Penney, and Aisin. She enjoyed cooking, making floral arrangements, and stained glass.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, three sons, Joe and Chuck Cartwright of North Vernon and Carl Cartwright of South Carolina, a daughter, Denese Wilkens of Florida, eight grandsons, two granddaughters, seven great-grandsons, a brother, Carl Castor, and three sisters, Della Zink, Ruth Back, and Donna Lewark.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Gladys Castor, four brothers, Charles, Willard, Leon, and Connard Castor, and four sisters, Martha Irene Herron, Anna Baker, Wilma Burton, and Silvia Castor.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Cremation and interment is planned at a later date at Vernon Cemetery.

Donations Information

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to New Freedom Church Cemetery and the Vernon Cemetery Perpetual Care Fund.
