Baker
January 22, 1930 – May 29, 2026
Muscatatuck County Park
5:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
Shirley Louise Baker passed away peacefully, and as the sun set on her earthly journey, she entered eternal rest on May 29, 2026, at the age of 96, surrounded by the love and memories of those who held her dear.
Born on January 22, 1930, Shirley was born and raised in Zenas, Indiana. She was a proud graduate of Zenas High School, where she built the foundation for her life.
Throughout her life, Shirley was dedicated to both her work and her family. She worked as a secretary for Dr. Johnson, where her organizational skills and warm personality made her a valued part of the office. In later years, she enjoyed helping her daughters with their dance and rental businesses, managing bookkeeping and lending a helping hand wherever needed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Violet Baker; sister-in-law, Betty Baker; son, Jerry Earl; and grandson, Seth Greathouse.
Shirley is survived by her brother, Jimmie Baker; daughters, Julie Greathouse (Larry) and Jana Wilson (Joe); nephew, Nick Baker (Chrissy); niece, Nanette Baker (Harry); grandchildren, Jason Earl (April), Justin Earl (Lauren), Cy Greathouse, Emily Douglas (JR), Abigail Hamrick (Jake), Zachery Wilson, Chaz Wilson, and Trever Wilson (Jade); great-grandchildren, Jackson, Jolee, and Jordyn Earl, Everett and Hudson Douglas, Emmett and Harper Hamrick, and Oliver Wilson; great-nephew, Bradley Baker (Erin); great-niece, Natalie Englishbee (Danny); and two great-great nieces Abigail and Elizabeth Baker.
Shirley found joy in life's simple pleasures-baking, holiday traditions, crafting, watching NASCAR/Indy Car races, Indiana Pacers, and IU Hoosiers, listening to her grandson Chaz play in his bands, traveling with her brother Jimmie, completing puzzles, shopping, and enjoying meals out with family and friends. Above all else, she treasured time spent with those she loved and delighted in keeping family close, involved, and connected.
She will be remembered for her loyalty, kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering love for family and friends. The memories she created and the love and devotion she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service has been entrusted with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Zenas Baptist Church in honor of Shirley's memory.
A celebration of life gathering will be held on Sunday, June 28th, 2026, at the Muscatatuck Park in North Vernon, IN from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Shelter House #2.
