Sherman Allen, 79, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:55 p.m., on Monday, December 19, 2022, at Our Hospice of South Central Inpatient Facility in Columbus.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Rev. Anthony Sweeney will officiate. Burial will be it the First Marion Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service.

Born on January 8, 1943, in Hazard, Kentucky, Sherman was the loving son of General and Orpha (Wooten) Allen. He was united in marriage to Joyce Bridges on January 25, 1969. She survives.

Sherman was a member of the First Christian Church. He had worked at Home Products International for over 40 years. Sherman liked tinkering around the garage doing things like small engine repairs. Most of all he cherished all the time spent with his family.

In addition to his wife, Joyce Allen of North Vernon, survivors include son, Michael Allen of Seymour; daughter, Amy (Shane) Harmon of North Vernon; sister, Sue Poff of Cincinnati, OH; granddaughters, Ava and Avery Harmon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, General and Orpha Allen; sisters, Betty Allen, Mary Ritchie, Martha Fincher, Becky Fields, Emma Bradshaw, and Jewell Hembree; brothers, Hyden, Beecher, Herman, Joe, and Jerry Allen.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Just Friends of Columbus or the First Marion Baptist Church Cemetery.
