Sherida Anne Burgmeier Moore, 73, of North Vernon, IN, died unexpectedly on January 31, 2012, at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, IN.
Sherida was born on July 10, 1938, in Seymour, Indiana. She was the daughter of Lester "Wimpy" Burgmeier and L. Louise Burgmeier. She was the only daughter and had six brothers. Sherida had five children with her former husband, Charles "Jug" Miller, whom she married in September 6, 1958. She married Thomas Moore on June 21, 1980.
She attended Ursuline College and Morehead College, where she earned her bachelor's degree in English and Biology. While she was at Ursuline she was the president of her class and introduced then Senator John F. Kennedy. She earned her Master's degree at Indiana University.
She attended St. Ambrose, St. Mary's, Oldenburg Academy where she served as class president, and Shawe Memorial High School, where she served as class president.
Sherida taught at Greendale High School, Austin, St. Mary's Elementary School, North Vernon High School, Jennings County High School, and IUPUI. Her area of concentration was English, AP English, and etymology.
She was actively involved in the Democrat Party, and she proudly served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate ("CASA"), where she was able to continue to be involved with and to advocate for children after she retired from teaching in 2000. She started the school board at St. Mary's School, where all five of her children attended. She was active in the Friends of the Muscatatuck River Society. She was a volunteer teacher at Brush Creek. She is a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher Sorority. She was the founder of the Red Hat Society Well Read Club.
In addition to her husband, Tom, Sherida is survived by her five children: Terri Leake, Tricia (Steve) Losey, Tammy (Jerry) Minger, Trent (Mandy) Miller, and Trevor (Kristine) Miller. She is survived by her fourteen grandchildren: Travis (Erin) Leake, Shanyn Leake, Avery Losey, Delanie Losey, Reilly Losey, Anthony "TJ" Babcock, Victoria Babcock, Clayton Miller, Connor Miller, Aidan Miller, Zoe Miller, Eliana Miller, Andrew Minger and Geoffrey Minger. Sherida also has two great-grandchildren: Sierra Leake and Mason Leake who survive her. Sherida has four surviving brothers: Larry (Bonnie) Burgmeier, Dennis (Ruthann) Burgmeier, Randy(Mary) Burgmeier, and Timothy Burgmeier.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers L. Dale Burgmeier and Roderick Burgmeier.
Funeral Information
Visitation will be held at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home on Thursday, February 02, 2012 from 4 to 8 p.m. Rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian burial at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend Jonathan Meyer officiating will be on Friday, February 03, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery.
