Mrs. Ruth Day

April 16, 1925 - November 21, 2013

Ruth Day, 88, of North Vernon passed away Thursday, November 21, 2013, at her residence.

Born April 16, 1925, in Butlerville, Ruth was the daughter of Dennis and Cuma Grinstead Boyd. She married William Day in 1945. He preceded her in death on November 23, 1998.

Ruth was a graduate of Butlerville High School, and was a member of the Butlerville Baptist Church. She retired from Muscatatuck State Developmental Center where she worked as a direct care attendant. Reading was her favorite thing to do in her spare time.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty Franklin, and Julia Swafford of North Vernon; grandchildren, Patrick Gabbard, and Krishayna Miller of North Vernon; great-grandchildren, Devin Miller, Brittany Sharp, and Skyler Bryant; one great-great grandchild, Jaxon Sharp.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; one daughter, Debbie Day; sisters, Geneva Boyd, and Evelyn Schuerman; brother, Merlin Boyd; one granddaughter, Debbie Gabbard.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Monday, November 25, 2013, at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. The Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service Monday at the funeral home.
