Mr. Russell J. "Worm" Clendenning

November 13, 1926 - January 24, 2011

Russell J. "Worm" Clendenning, 84, of North Vernon passed away at 1:35 p.m. Monday, January 24, 2011 at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.
Born November 13, 1926 in Jennings County, he was the son of Fred C. and Martha L. Chittenden Clendenning. He later married Betty Ann Trimnell in 1956. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Mr. Clendenning retired as an engineer for CSX railroad after 42 years. He was awarded Railroader of The Year in 2010. Worm was a member of the Rolling Hills Shrine Club and the North Vernon Masonic Lodge #59 and was a Master Mason. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, playing cards and working jigsaw and crossword puzzles.
Russell is survived by his two sons, Randall Clendenning of Jackson, S.C. and Rusty Clendenning of North Vernon; three grandchildren, Megan & Matthew of Augusta, GA and James Clendenning of San Jacinto;
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Martha Louise, Eloise Hester and Gladys Berry and two brothers Dwight Casper and Lee Clendenning.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2011 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be provided at 7:45 p.m. on Friday evening by North Vernon Lodge 59. Interment will be at Vernon Cemetery.
