Rose Marie Carrico Leake, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:52 a.m., on Tuesday, August 11, 2020.

Due to the Covid-19, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted for immediate family only, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. There will be a graveside service held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2020, at St. Mary's Cemetery. All are welcome to attend. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on October 14, 1933, in Louisville, KY, Rose is the daughter of Owen and Lula Carrico. She was united in marriage to Francis "Jerry" Leake on February 9, 1952 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Louisville, KY, with Rev. Boone and Rev. Leons officiating. He preceded her in death on October 25, 2011.

Rose graduated from Presentation Academy in 1951. She worked as a secretary at International Harvester in Louisville, KY and later at Bendix Aviation in Davenport, Iowa. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was very active in both the church and the school. Rose was one of the eight Catholic women who started the funeral dinners. She had played in the "Who Dealt?" card club for over 40 years. She was a Kentucky Colonel. However, in 1961, she moved to North Vernon with her husband, Dr. "Doc" Leake, where he was a chiropractor for 33 years. After having children, Rose was a stay at home mom, whom was a caretaker for family and friends over the years. Due to her daughter, Shari, being a flight attendant, Rose and Doc were fortunate enough to be able to travel all 50 states and four continents.

Rose is survived by daughters, Cindy (Russell) Paswater of North Vernon, Sandra (Bruce) Gregory of Liberty, and Shari Leake (John) of North Vernon; son, Dr. Gary (Ronda) Leake of Burlington, KY; grandchildren, Travis Leake, Shanyn Leake, Dr. Eric Davis, Dr. Adam Davis, Cindel Ritter, and Jacob Gregory; eight great grandchildren; brother, James (Linda) Carrico of Louisville, KY.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Owen and Lula Carrico; husband, Dr. "Doc" Leake; grandson, Zachary Gregory; brothers, Mac, Tom, Louis, and Bobby Carrico; sister, Anna Jean Hargrave.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Zachary H. Gregory Emerging Leadership Award at IU Medical School.
