Roger D. Greer, 75, of Maggie Valley, N.C. passed away at 2:45 AM Tuesday, June 07, 2016, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, June 10, 2016, at Bethel Baptist Church. Brother Ricky Persons will officiate. Inurnment will follow in Vernon Cemetery next to his late wife Pauline at 12:15 PM. A gathering of friends and relatives will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to the donor's choice of charity.
Mr. Greer had attended Queensville Community Church and was baptized there in 1985. He was a member of Barberville Baptist Church in Waynesville, N.C.
He enjoyed fishing, reading, horses, gardening, flea marketing and going to yard sales with his wife Joyce.
Mr. Greer had worked at the North Vernon post office, was a contractor, etc. In North Carolina, he was a building contractor & small scale developer.
Born April 8, 1941, in Allardt, TN., Roger was the son of the late Ira and Alma Upchurch Greer.
He has one daughter, Cindy Brooks of Hayden; four grandchildren, Kristian McDonald, Hannah, Shelby and Samantha Brooks; and two great-grandchildren, Valerie Chavaz and Konner McDonald.
Mr. Greer married the former Pauline Matern in 1983. She passed away in 1984 at the age of thirty-six. He would like to thank all of the late Lucy and George Matern family for continuing to treat he and Joyce like family.
He later married the former Joyce Nix of the Winter Haven, FL. area. He has one step-daughter, Debbie Parkhurst and one special step-son, J.R. "Opie" Bohannon; four step-grandchildren, Mike Parkhurst, Michelle Stanley, Trish Revells and Josh Bohannon; step-great-grandchildren, Nolan and Clara Parkhurst, Colin Stanley, & Lane and Michelle Revells.
Mr. Greer is survived by his wife Joyce; sister, Leeta Alline Gibson of North Vernon; special niece and nephew, Sheila and Mark Gibson, plus many, many special nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Pauline; sister, Edith Webb; brothers, J.B., Ira Jr., and Samuel Greer.
Mr. Greer would also like to thank God for taking him out of this place!
