IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert L.
Marshall
November 10, 1931 – October 7, 2014
Mr. Robert L. Marshall
November 10, 1931 - October 07, 2014
Robert L. "Jake" Marshall, after living a wonderful life passed away in his sleep at his home near Hayden on Tuesday, October 7, 2014.
Born November 10, 1931, near Lovett, IN, he was the son of Gerald and Elizabeth Layman Marshall. Jake grew up in the Lovett, Commiskey, and Hayden areas. He graduated from Hayden High School in 1950 and served in the United States Air Force after graduation.
Over the years, Jake enjoyed fast pitch softball, bowling, and golf. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play golf in high school and college. He coached little league baseball at Scipio and thoroughly enjoyed instructing young men on becoming better baseball players.
Jake was employed at Arvin Industries in Seymour after his military service for twenty-five years. After a short stint with the Jennings County Highway Department, he worked at Cummins Engine Company as a security guard for nineteen years. He retired in 1995.
Jake is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Pearl Ingram Marshall. Jake and Pearl had three children, Alan L. (Kimberly) Marshall of North Vernon, Marlene K. (Dave) White of Seymour, and Randall S. (Brenda) Marshall of North Vernon. He is also survived by his only sister, Verda A. (Bill) Ruddick of Seymour; seven grandchildren, Shawn Marshall of Indianapolis, Kimberly (Chris) Clegg of Seymour, Missy White of Seymour, Kellie Hensley of North Vernon, Sam Brewster of Hayden, Rebecca (Justin) Walsh of Wichita, KS, and Caitlin (Frank) Dickman of Columbus; three great-grandchildren, Alexa Walsh, Christopher Clegg, and Joshua Clegg; one brother-in-law, Vernon (Patti) Ingram; and multiple nieces and nephews.
Jake was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil, Paul, Arnold, and Gerald Marshall Jr.
He was a member of the American Legion, Hayden Historical Society, and Hayden Baptist Church where he served as deacon for several decades. For Jake, laughter was the medicine to cure all things. He was not above reminding the minister that IU Basketball had a noon start time on Sunday in an attempt to shorten the sermon.
Jake loved his family and his church. Heaven gained a practical joker on October 7th and we all rejoice and thank God for blessing us with Jake!
