Mr. Robert L. Clark

July 27, 1925 - August 28, 2010

Robert L. Clark, 85, of North Vernon passed away at 8 :40 AM Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Schneck Medical Center.

Born July 27, 1925, Robert was the son of Raymond and Ruth Briner Clark. He married Virginia Ertel on February 17, 1947. She preceded him in death on December 23, 1998.

Mr. Clark served in the United States Army from 1943 - 1946 during WW II with the 37th Tank Battalion, 4th Armored Division. He retired from the Army National Guard in 1985 as a Major. He worked for the B&O and CSX Railroad for 42 years and retired in 1986.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also donated railroad memorabilia to the Jennings County Historical Society and volunteered there for several years. He was awarded "Railroader of the Year" in 1999.

Robert is survived by daughters, Patricia Clark, Mary (Steve) Smith, Donna (Don) Bingham, Carol (George) Ramey and Debbie (Randy) Bales of North Vernon; one brother, Donald R. Clark of Columbus; thirteen grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Marvin E. and Wilfred D. "Bill" Clark, and sisters, Helen R. Pollert, and L. Lucille Leckermeyer.

Funeral Information

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Jonathan Meyer officiating. Interment and military graveside rites will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A rosary service will be conducted at 3:30 PM.
