Rita J. Bott, 71, of Scipio, passed away at 4:49 a.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Community South Hospital in Indianapolis.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with a rosary service at 3:30 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

Born March 1, 1946, in Seymour, Rita was the daughter of Charles and Edna (Kriete) Hornback. She married John Bott on July 24, 1965, and he survives.

A 1964 graduate of North Vernon High School, Rita retired as Director of Religious Education at St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of St. Mary's Church, and enjoyed restoring church art, painting statues, and traveling to the Black Hills of South Dakota and Branson, Missouri.

In addition to her husband, John, Rita is survived by three sons, David Bryan Bott of Commiskey, Patrick Bott of Burney, and Scott Bott of Whiteland; and five grandchildren, Isabella Bott, Derrick Wade, Tara Beeman, Amy Tracy and Becky Colwell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Charles Larry Hornback.
