Richard Dale Purnell, a dedicated family man, passed away on April 18, 2026, at his home at the age of 80. Born on November 4, 1945, in Indianapolis, Richard was a proud veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.

Richard spent his professional life as a self-employed home repair specialist, bringing his skills and know-how to countless homes in the area. His incredible work ethic was matched only by his love for music. He enjoyed attending concerts, especially, of his favorite artist, Jackson Browne. He loved making the Walmart runs for anything his wife desired, which was his daily routine, sometimes four times a day. He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life-like trying his luck at the casino. He was particularly fond of his cat, Dusty, who provided companionship through the years.

A member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Richard was also known for his warm heart and willingness to help others. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Marguerite Purnell; his daughter, Shelly Young; his sons, Rich (Beth) Purnell, Josh (Heather) Purnell, and Greg Purnell; and his cherished grandchildren, Chloe and Simon Young, and Rocco, Mazzy and Scarlett Purnell, along with a great-grandchild, Stella Ott.

Richard's family will gather to honor his life and legacy during a memorial service at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery that will be held on a date yet to be announced.

He will be missed dearly but fondly remembered for his love and laughter. Rest in peace, Richard.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Joyce Perkins Purnell; brother, Gary Purnell; sisters, Beth Purnell and Patricia Taylor.
