Richard L. Miller, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at his residence.
Born May 9, 1929, in North Vernon, Rich was the son of Clyde and Nanny (Wood) Miller. On May 7, 1949, he married Wilma Jean Alexander, and she preceded him in death on December 27, 2015.
Rich retired from the railroad in 1989, after 40 years working as a brakeman. He was a member of United Transportation Union - C, and was named Railroader of the Year in 1988. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, he enjoyed playing cards, and was an avid collector of railroad memorabilia.
Survivors include three daughters, Janet (Don) Henry of Scipio, Linda (Jon) Passmore of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, and Judy (Bob) Watts of North Vernon; a son, Richard (Sue) Miller of Greeneville, Tennessee; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Alexander of North Vernon, Ruth Miller of Seymour, and Bo Miller of North Vernon; brother-in-law, Robert Alexander of North Vernon; 13 grandchildren, Chris Henry, Matt Henry, Ali (Chris) LaFlamme, Clint Wilhoit, Wendy (John) Baker, Victoria Passmore, Anthony Passmore, Shanan (Jason) Orrock, Sharon (Patrick) Norris, Jake Miller, Megan Traylor, Travis (Ana) Watts, and Justin (Lisha) Watts; and 18 great grandchildren.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; step-mother, Ruth Marie Miller; two brothers, Clarence and Dale Miller; and sister, Martha Coquerille.
