Mr. Richard R. Day Jr.

Richard R. Day, Jr., 57, of North Vernon, passed away at 8:12 am on Monday, May 2, 2011, at VA Hospital in Indianapolis.

Born in Seymour, IN, on June 3, 1953, Richard was the son of Richard Sr. and Georgia Gabbard Day. He graduated from Jennings County High School in 1971, and completed an associates degree in electronics at Ivy Tech.

Richard had been employed as a tool and die maker by SIMCO and Decatur Mold, and in security services by Securitas. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict in Strategic Air Command and was stationed at Grissom Air Force Base. He was a member of First Apostolic Church, and enjoyed walking, computers, reading, Chevrolet trucks and being outdoors.

Mr. Day is survived by his mother, Georgia Day; wife Waunetta Day; son Matthew Day; daughter Delana Day all of North Vernon; two brothers, Steve Day of Deputy and Mark Day; sister Marilyn Terrell of North Vernon; granddaughter Haley Day and step-grandchildren Skyler Cassidy and Isabella Deckard.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Day, Sr.

Funeral Information

A graveside service with military honors will be conducted on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 1:00 pm at Vernon Cemetery.
