Rhoda Ann Eakins, 94, of North Vernon passed away at 3:55 p.m., on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at home.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at the Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Dale Boyd will officiate. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on February 5, 1930, in North Vernon, Rhoda was the loving daughter of Rhodes and Dorothy (Ormsby) Hudson. She was united in marriage on May 7, 1949 to Russell W. Eakins for 69 years. He preceded her in death on May 3, 2016.

Rhoda was a 1947 North Vernon High School Graduate. She had worked for the North Vernon Plain Dealer and Sun Newspaper for a short period of time. She then worked for Head Start as a Social Worker for 20 years. Rhoda attended St. Mary's Catholic Church as a child. She enjoyed quilting in her free time.

Left to cherish Rhoda's memory are sons, Richard Wayne (Kim) Eakins of Unionville, IN, and Christopher Ray Eakins of Nashville, IN; grandchildren, Julie Ortlibe, Evan Eakins, and Hillary Frye; great grandchildren, Samuel Frye, Cora Frye, and May Frye, Avery Eakins, Gunnar Ortlibe, Zoe Ortlibe, Paisley Ortlibe; half siblings, Judy Steinert, Ruth Roseberry, T.L. Roseberry, and Randolph Hudson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rhodes Hudson and Dorothy Roseberry; husband, Russell Eakins, son, Robert Mark Eakins, and half sibling, Jess Roseberry.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or the Shriners Hospital for Children.
