Rex Covell Gilbert, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:49 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at Autumn Trace.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Vernon Cemetery. Rev. Andrew Sommers will officiate. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service is entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on October 11, 1938, in Seymour, Rex was the loving son of the late Frank Covell and Macie Monroe (Whitson) Gilbert. He was united in marriage to Sue Carol Taylor on August 2, 1958. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2014.

Rex graduated from Seymour High School in 1956. He worked at Boeing in Seattle, Washington from 1979 to 1982, Williams International from 1982 to 1990, and retiring from N&N Driveshaft after working there from 1990 to 2003. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Church.

Left to cherish Rex's memory are his sons, Mark Gilbert of North Vernon, and Darren Wayne Gilbert of Seymour; sister, Joan Strode of Gary, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Judy Lozaneao.
