Retha P. Sons

January 11, 1932 - February 12, 2016

Retha P. Sons, 84, of North Vernon, passed away at 1:34 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016, at her home.

Born January 11, 1932, in Alfordsville, Indiana, Retha was the daughter of the late John J. and Flora M. (Winegar) Milligan. She married David Sons, who preceded her in death on May 22, 1995.

Retha worked at Sapps Bakery prior to working as a CNA in the nursing home industry. She enjoyed crocheting , gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, berry picking and spending time with her family.

Retha is survived by three daughters, Angelia (Doyal Remy) Spellman of Rushville, Beverley (Jim) Coldiron and Lora (Ron) Traylor of North Vernon; two sons, James Sons of North Vernon and William (Cheryl) Sons of Butlerville; five sisters, Burdett Parsons, Vivian Wilson, Wilma Eller and Juanita Mott of Washington, Indiana and Brenda Bateman of Cleveland, Ohio; one brother, Harvey Milligan of Medora; 16 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Flora Milligan; her husband, David Sons; one daughter, Helen R. Sons; three sisters, Helen, Roanna and Ada Milligan; and two brothers, Ives and Clarence Milligan.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service in North Vernon. Rev. Della Hamilton will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
