Mr. Ransom H. Carnahan

Ransom H. Carnahan, 91, of Sardinia passed away at 5:02 p.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at home with his family.
Born October 8, 1919 in Hermitage Springs, Tennessee, Ransom was the son of the late Harrison and Fannie Bean Carnahan. He married Dorothy Marie Taylor on June 6, 1944 and she preceded him in death on May 6, 1983. He later married Marie Fletcher Hendricks on November 22, 1983. Marie survives.
Ransom had owned and operated grocery stores and gas stations in Columbus for several years. It was always said of Ransom that he gave away more than he ever sold because of his big heart. He later opened "Hub-Cap Corner" in Queensville having at times nearly ten thousand hubcaps. He also went worked for the Indiana State Highway Department for 13 1/2 years.
He is survived by his wife Marie, two daughters, Helen Joyce (Tom) Mitchell of Richmond and Ramona Law of North Vernon, three step-daughters, Laura (Bob) Heaton of Indianapolis, and Lisa (Richard) Streight and Molly (Jim) Cruiser of North Vernon, a step-son, Rex Hendricks of North Vernon, 19 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, parents, a son William David Carnahan, and nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral Information

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March, 1, 2011 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home in North Vernon. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday evening and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery in Columbus.
