Ralph Ronald Gaines, age 83, of North Vernon, passed away on September 16, 2025 surrounded by his family. Ralph was born on June 6, 1942, in Hanover, Indiana, to Ralph and Margaret (Wainscott) Gaines. He married Donna Rockey on February 13, 1967. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend who made a lasting impression on those he met.

Ralph dedicated 24 years to road maintenance with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). Upon retirement, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sharing laughter and stories that will be fondly remembered.

He was a die-hard UK basketball fan, never missing a game if he could help it. Ralph loved spending sunny days at classic car shows and cherished moments by the water fishing with family and friends.

He is survived by his beloved wife; children, John (Donna) Gaines, Mary Summerfield (Jeff Sharp), Lisa Gaines, Rebecca (Gary) Arms, Laura Gaines, Beth Gaines (Scott Brooks), William Gaines, and Ralph Gaines Jr; sisters Barbara (Elvan) Geisler, Ruth Ann (Lowell) Shirey, Maire (Raymond) Gilpin, Penny Henry; brother Mike (Janet) Gaines and 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister Jo Ann Seale; nephew Kenneth Geisler and brother-in-law Larry Henry.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19 2025, at 10:00 am at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm. Jesse Sharp will officiate. Ralph will be laid to rest at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Ralph's memory to Gentiva Hospice through the funeral home.
