Obituary

We are saddened to announce that Paula R. Coryell, 68, of North Vernon, passed away peacefully at home on May 12, 2026. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Paula was born on December 14, 1957, in Washington, IN, to William A. and Margaret Mamie Williams Bingham. She married the love of her life, Douglas A. Coryell, on December 24, 1989. Unfortunately, she lost Douglas on September 4, 2012, but the love they shared will forever be cherished.

Paula dedicated 29 years of her life to nursing. She retired from St. Vincent - Jennings Hospital in 2009. She had a big heart and brought a lot of joy to those around her. Whether it was bowling with her husband and kids, playing bingo, or enjoying the great outdoors while hunting and fishing, Paula knew how to have a good time. She also loved mushroom hunting with her family, sewing Halloween costumes, crafting, and watching TV with her sister in the evenings.

Paula leaves behind her son, James Johnston, of North Vernon; her sisters, Darlene Brown from Burns City, IN, and Leota Havens from Ogdensburg, NY; her brother, Richard Bingham of North Vernon; and her stepchildren, Douglas Joseph Coryell Jr., Andy Coryell, Mimi Jo Coryell, and Shannon Coldiron. She will also be missed by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy.

She was preceded in death by her husband Douglas, her parents, her sisters Carol and Mary Ann Bingham, her brothers David and William "BJ" Bingham, and her stepson Michael Coryell.

To celebrate Paula's life, a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service, with visitation starting at 11:00 AM until the service begins. Paula will be laid to rest at Vernon Cemetery following the service.

Memorials can be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana. Paula touched many lives, and we hope to honor her memory with all the love and laughter she shared with us.
